Band and Orchestra

Band and Orchestra is available for 5th and 6th grade students. They have small group lessons once a week at their schools. They also meet as a large ensemble (students from each school) before school once a week. The groups perform twice a year as a full ensemble and students have the opportunity to perform individually at a music festival once a year.  Contact Mrs. Julie Quitschau for further information about Band and Orchestra.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a reading competition for students in grades 3-6. Teams are comprised of students of multiple grades and abilities.  For the challenge, the teams read the assigned novels and come together twice a month (from January through March) to test their knowledge of the books read. The competitions are similar in style to the TV series Family Feud or Jeopardy. The teams will compete in 4 rounds of battle during the month of April. The winning team from each of the six participating schools will be invited to a district level battle on April 30, 2010.  For more information, please contact Mrs. Schlobohm.

Cougar Chorus

Chorus is offered to 5th and 6th grade students twice a week during the lunch/recess hour. They have the opportunity to perform at many school functions and celebrations. Contact Ms. Nauman for further information.

Earth Club

The students in grades 3 and 4 have the opportunity to participate in Earth Club. Earth Club meets once a month during lunch recess. The meetings are announced ahead of time and the members generally get a reminder note as well. Earth Club packages all of the cell phones and readies and packages the athletic shoes we collect at school. During the month of April (Earth Day Month), we sponsor various activities related to the 3 Rs -- reuse, reduce, and recycle -- which have included leading a spare change drive to raise money for the Save the Koalas foundation in Australia and hosting a Book Swap in conjunction with the Make-a-Difference club in which students bring in a used book from home to swap out with a "new" book that we've collected. Who knows what we'll come up with this year!  Contact Margo Ban for further information.

Girls Running Club

Girls Running Club is an after school club for girls in grades 3-6.  The clubs meets twice a week for one hour where we explore teamwork, building a healthy body image, and increasing self-esteem.  All of this is done through training and running!  The club will start in March with basic exercises and games and eventually work up to our goal of running a 5 Kilometer race in late May. For more information, please contact Ms. Nauman.

Make A Difference Club

Interested in making a difference in the community?  Then this club is for you.  The club is open to 2nd through 6th graders.  The club meets 1-2 times a month during your lunch recess.  Planned activities this year will revolved around the theme "Building Bridges with Others" by supporting our troops and their children, participating in Special Olympic activities, recognizing our local heroes, participating in a food drive, and building pen pal relationships with children living in Nigeria just to name a few.  Contact Judy Benka for further information.

Musicals

The students in grades 1-6 have the opportunity to participate in a musical every year through their comprehensive music classes.  Kindergarten puts on a program of their own with the kindergarten teachers. This is a time to showcase pieces they have learned and to grow as individuals through speaking and acting roles.  Contact Ms. Nauman for further information.

6th grade intramural athletics

Pleasant Hill offers intramural sports to all 6th grade students.  The physical education classes focus on educational and cooperative type activities with emphasis on competition with one's self.  The intramural program allows students to be more competitive with others.  Sixth graders signed up for intramurals will be able to participate in a variety of games during their recess time on certain days throughout the school year.  They will also have the opportunity to compete against other District 15 schools in three district wide events:  cross country (1 mile run) in the fall, spot shot (basketball) in the winter, track and field meet in the spring.  Participation in intramurals is optional.  Contact Mrs. Walker for further information.

Student Council

Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades have the opportunity to run for the Student Council offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Elections are held in early November.  Class representatives are elected from each class in grades 3 - 6 to work with the officers.  Student Council sponsors Spirit Days, school store, and other fun activities for our student body.  Mrs. Loudermilk and Mrs. Willis sponsor this club.  Contact
Mrs. Loudermilk for further information.

Video Production Club

Morning announcements will be made every morning with the video production club.  Students in 5th and 6th grades are eligible to participate in the video production club.  Three teams of students will each spend a month on a rotating basis producing the video announcements each morning.  Some students will work with the cameras, soundboards, lighting, etc.  Others will be in front of the camera as the anchor people, sportscaster, book review reporters, etc.  Mrs. Garro, Mr. Isaacs, Mrs. Schlobohm and Mr. Bubaris sponsor this club. Parents can watch the morning announcements in the Resource Center each morning.  Contact Mrs. Garro for further information.
